Social networking is a wonderful way to find old friends, classmates or colleagues or even connect with other people of other cultures. That's why I so enjoy communicating with my friends on Facebook. However, I am a curious person in the positive sense of the word, this is why I thought I'd try Twitter. I still have an account there, but so far I've been bitterly disappointed. Here's why I hate Twitter.
- Character limit
My illustrious ancestors - the Spartans - said: " To lakonizin esti filosofia" - meaning "Brevity is a Virtue". But they meant words, not characters. To my mind, setting a narrow character limit to a tweet (140 characters) is most frustrating! How can you really communicte with your friends in 140 characters? Is this an advance of technology? It would be an understatement to say that the whole concept of limiting Twitter to 140 characters is obnoxious!
- Hash Tags
I really can't understand...hash tags. Why is there a search bar, then?
- Tweets and theit Content
Most tweets contain bad language and terrible grammar as well as boring content! Who cares if you've just answered the phone, gone out for a walk, or fed your cat?
- Trending Topics
I'm not against trending topics on Twitter in so far as they hold the reader's interest. Unfortunately, most trending topics on Twitter lack interest and tend to be boring.
- Twitpics
Pointless tweets are often replaced by pointless twitpics. A good pic is said to be worth 1000 words. However, a twitpic is usually worth 0 words.. How sad! As far as I am concerned, I don't care the least if Lady Gaga has just had a session with her personal trainer or if you have just been to your favourite hair salon! What a terrible loss of time to read such tweets. It's ok for celebrities , I guess. They have the luxury of posting silly twitpics and get thousands of tweets back!! Their fans are like sheep in a flock, aren't they?!
What I also did not like was that a person I really liked and followed on Typepad kept posting her ...tweets every 5 minutes! As a result, my dashboard was filled with her tweets which were meaningless to me. So, I had to unfollow her.
What do you like or dislike about Twitter?
I hate Twitter as much as you do and for the same reasons you just pointed out here. I have to add that I don't like to be followed by companies /individuals who follow me, and if I don't follow because their business/interest is not my interest, they unfollow me.

Twitter users have no attention spans. The “send your message in 140 characters or less” has been made valid. If you have a lengthy point to make, you must use a link to connect to it. And even then, Twitter folk tend to only partake in quick news bites.

What can you really say of significance in 140 characters? Sounds like you have to be really creative, at first, to get a precise, meaningful message squashed into 140 total characters. Like writing a 50 word fiction story or poetry. And you do. If you want to have more than a lot of nothing to say. However, most people aren't that creative, and don't care if they are anyway because they won't want to take the time to write 140 character poetry. With the Twitter format, they don't really care to express pithy wit most of the time, either. Hell, even 50 short words with proper spacing and punctuation require more than 140 characters!

Although I am an IT Manager , I really don't like social networking. I prefer texting my friends when they live far away or meeting them in person if they live nearby. Now, if your main goal is to use Twitter for internet marketing, you may find yourself easily distracted. You may use Twitter to market your website or blog, but many others do not. And that's a bit of a problem!

What I hate most about Twitter is spam! This is why I cancelled my Twitter account.

I think Twitter is a bad copy of FB!

I love Twitter and find it much better than FB. Once you learn how it works there are practically no disadvantages. I find the 140 characters feature a great way to keep in touch with friends for free, especially if you are too busy to email. It's also a fun and creative way to do business.

Facebook has agreed to tighten its privacy policies after it settled a long-running dispute with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The social network was accused by the regulator last year of introducing "unfair and deceptive" changes to its privacy policies in 2009, including settings that made users' confidential profile information public without their consent.
Facebook also shared personal information including status updates, geographic location and marital status with advertisers and third-party applications without telling users, the FTC said.
Embracing Twitter can allow sustainability professionals to share information, engage with consumers and build networks in an open and transparent way.

Although I have an account on Facebook, I am not really very keen on social media. However, I hear many people prefer Twitter these days. I'll bear the disadvantages you mention in mind if I decide to try it.

I never had a twitter account... it seems so pointless, or maybe I'm just missing the point.
