This has always been my favourite food. Mum would often cook it for me even after I got married. I have recently asked her to give me the recipe and I gave it a try. To be honest, I don't think it turned out great although Alkis told me that he loved it. I think it was slightly overcooked and my tomato sauce wasn't as juicy as mum's.
Ingredients
1 chichen cut in portions
1/2 cup olive oil
500 gr peas
1 onion finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, sliced
5-6 ripe tomatoes finely cut
1 teaspoon sugar
salt to taste and ground pepper
Directions
- In a deep frying pan heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chicken portions and let them brown for about 10 minutes.
- Add the onion and the garlic, stir and continue cooking over medium heat for 3-5 minutes.
- Add the sugar and the tomatoes, cover the pan and let cook for about 45 minutes.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
Your chicken looks great to me. A tip for a thicker and more juicy tomato sauce is to put the tomatoes in the food processor and add 1 teaspoon olive oil and 1 teaspoon tomato paste.

Your chicken looks delicious and I hope to surprise my friends on Friday night. I have invited them to dinner and said I will cook for them something different. :-) Risky, I know!!! I love cooking from time to time. My favorite chichen dish is Teriyaki chichen. But on Friday I will try to cook the greek chichen with peas! Wish me luck!!!

Sounds delicious! But if I were you, I'd simply brush the chichen with the olive oil, then brown it in a hot, non-stick pan.

This is also one of my most favorite greek foods. Such a pity you almost never find in a restaurant. Thanks a million for the recipe!!!
