I sometimes take for granted the beauty of the town I've been living in for the last 28 years. When Alkis and I first moved to Larnaca back in November 1984, I could hardly call it home.. We both missed our hometowns - Nicosia and Serres. Living in Larnaca wasn't easy for either of us, but very soon we both fell in love with the beautiful city of Zenon to such an extent that we no longer miss our hometowns as much as we did when we first came to live here.
Last Sunday, we had the pleasure to meet up with some good friends from Thessaloniki and enjoyed a stroll along Finicoudes Promenade which boasts probably the best beach in Larnaca. Such a pity the sea was too cold for us to swim! Finicoudes means little palm trees in Greek. The seafront was named after the palm trees that were planted there hundreds of years ago. Now they are tall palm trees that have survived time and often adverse weather conditions. After our leisurely stroll, we had lunch at Meze-Meze - a Greek restaurant I strongly recommend. There's great food, excellent service and good value for money.
During our stroll, we noticed that Larnaca has already started the preparations for the country's greatest summer festival called Kataklysmos - or the Flood Festival - which marks the beginning of summer and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll certainly try Meze-Meze soon.

We also celebrate kataklysmos in Lemesos but it's not as spectacular as the one in Larnaca. I guess Larnaca looks its best these days judging from your great photos. Kalo triimero, Anastasia mou.

Thanks for brightening up my day! With all the political talk in Greece these days and the crisis AND the big question: are we going back to drachma or not??? - in other words to be or not to be - I desperately needed a mood fixer!!! Hope my comment makes sense. :-)

I guess I was so hungry by lunch time that I completely forgot to take photos of the food. It was too late when I remembered. :-)

I love the picture of the medieval castle on the beach. It's so romantic. The view from the top must be awesome!

When the kids were younger, we'd often spend the wk of kataklysmos in Larnaca. The kids couldn't wait to go on all the rides, play games and eat loukoumades. One year, my daughter won a huge teddy bear which she still has now! Enjoy the long weekend.

In San Diego, the beach is a way of life, a source of pride and joy, a defining influence in people's lives. For some, the mere memory of a mid-summer sunset melting into the Pacific is reward enough. Others have a more intimate relationship with the ocean: surfing and sailing, biking and running, swimming and diving along San Diego's many coastal beaches and bays. What I enjoy most is my early morning two-mile jog on the beach. Love your photos!!

Whenever I want to clear my mind from problems and worries, I go fishing in Sifnos or Galaxidi and even if I don't catch anything, I feelI have recharged the batteries. On a Sunday morning I enjoy a stroll in Plaka, Athens. I may walk for hours on my own and even go up to Filopapou, and then I'll sit at an ouzerie, have an ouzomeze while reading Sunday's Financial Times.

Il est vrai que parfois on ne voit pas la beauté qui nous entoure. Quelle belle promenade! Les photos sont super comme toujours, d'ailleurs.

Hello from Saint Petersburg, Russia. We have visited Cyprus for vacation 3 times and we so loved that we ar also coming this summer in August. The other times, we stayed for 3 weeks in Ayia Napa which we really loved. last summer we stayed at Nissi Beach Hotel. The beach was very nice but we were very dissappointed with the hotel. This summer, my husband and me are look for a more quiet place and we are thinking about Larnaca which we visited. Is a very beautiful city. We are looking on the internet for hotels cos we are not taking a package tour this time. Your photos from Larnaca are very nice. Maybe you can recommend a good hotel (4-5 star)with prices for 3 weeks in August and some good restaurants. I bookmark the one you mention here. Any others will be nice to know.
