The cinema is one of my greatest passions. In my childhood, I loved comedies and musicals such as "The Sound of Music", which I still love today, "Mary Poppins", "My Fair Lady", "Funny Girl", "Breakfast at Tiffany's". In my teens, I loved "The Godfather",. "Ryan's Daughter", "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" and as an adult I fell in love with The Love Story, "Gone With the Wind", "The Silence of the Lamb", "Home Alone", "Dancing with Wolves", "Pretty Woman", "Wild at Heart" and so many other great movies. I also loved the Greek cinema and never missed one single film of Aliki Vouyiouglaki.
The cinema is an art form that is accessible to most people., and it is one that most people enjoy. Are you one of them? Do you follow the movie world?
I love cinema, but barely have time to see movies. When I was a kid we used to go to the drive-in, they were great!

I feel that film making in the 21st century is no longer an art but big business!

I am a movie freak! I go to the cinema at least twice a week and have seen great films like Matthew Hope's The Veteran starring Toby Kebbel and Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris - a great romantic comedy.

I love comedies and sci fi most. I have seen all Harry Potter films but the last one is one of the best - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows - Part 2. This is great entertainment!

I am no longer attracted to the cinema as I used to 10 years ago. I loved so many great movies of the 90s : The English Patient, American Pie and the Titanic, of course. When I was a child, I never missed Aliki's films at the cinema. I was crazy about her! Now my kids never miss her films when they play on TV. It's amazing how many generations "grew up" with Aliki. I don't think Greece will ever know again a greater film star.

I share Andy's opinion. There is no art in today's movies and hardly any entertainment. To me special effects are not entertainment. All we get is boring American "blockbusters" which translate into boring, poor quality films: Troy, The Gladiator, Avatar and more recently Ironclad and No Strings Attached make me feel it's such a waste of money! I can think of better places to spend 8 euros!

It's a long time I haven't been to the cinema. I don't find it entertaining any more. I'd rather go to the theatre when I have some free time.

Most people go to the movies to be entertained. This is necessary and appropriate. After all, films allow us to put away our own lives for a couple of hours and embrace the life and story of the people who we are watching, which is entertainment in its purest form. I find it sad, however, that the average filmgoer does not think beyond the idea of films as a way to kill a few hours. Rather, cinema is an art form just as significant and just as profound as any painting or song. Art exists to stimulate its audience, to provoke thought and stir them to consider what a person believes and why he believes it. Art exists to create a reaction in a person, and to make its audience into less of a watcher and more of a participant. Certainly, it must be stimulating to the audience, and that is where entertainment comes in as a key player. It is also so much more: Films are pieces of art, and they should be looked at as art. They should provoke and bush boundaries.they should make statements and ask questions.

When I was younger I went to the theater very often but I don't do this anymore. I am more comfortable seeing a movie at home. If it is a new release and I really want to see it right away and not wait until it comes on cable or dvd then I will go.

I haven't seen one good film this year. I don't think that special effects, bad acting and a poor script can make cinema an art form. Or, lets say, just like with paintings, not all films are works of art.

Although I love to watch American blockbusters from time to time, I usually prefer japanese movies. I loved Hana-bi (Fireworks) and Audition directed by the very controversial film maker Takashi Miike. Another japanese film I liked very much was Akira, an amazing visual achievement and a large window into japanese culture. I think it's a film any cinephile should see.

I am a cinema lover and a TV addict! On TV I watch only films and record the ones I miss. At the cinema, I like blockbusters, action films, thrillers, drama and comedy. Here are some of the movies I enjoyed this year: The Lincoln Lawyer, Fast Five, Rio. I hated Foodprints and The Roommate. I have also seen all the films you mention, if I had to choose a favorite that would be Dancing with Wolves.

I have not seen a decent presentation outside the west end of London, and it's sad that there is little to no competition elsewhere in the country to make cinema operators put presentation and the cinematic experience above profit. Maybe it's because they see little money from the showing of the actual films, so they ignore that to make sure the confectionary is sold and the adverts are well presented.
In an age of digital playback in the home, cheaper big screens and projectors and the fact that more and more people are cash strapped and less likely to pay for entertainment outside the home, you would think that Cinema chains would pull out the stops to make it an experience. again.
