As promised a couple of weeks ago, here is the complete list of my 7 deadly, guilty pleasures:
7. Occasionally reading the Cyprus edition of Madame Figaro
6. Saving 30 euros a month to purchase these divine Dior boots....hopefully before I turn 60!
5. Strawberry bavaroise!!!!! My most favourite spring dessert....I'd rather not think of the number of calories per 50 gr.
4. Watching silly shows like Greek Idol if I'm home on Saturday night. I think Panayiotis will be the Next Greek Idol and yes, I am sad Keren was eliminated.
3. Working long hours and not having much time to spend with my family in Nicosia. But I always make up for it on school holidays.
2. Espressos! Although I have cut down on coffee, I guiltily enjoy 3 espressos a day with some Thornton or Cadbury chocolate.
1. Smoking! (and please don't preach!)
Here you go now! Any guilty pleasures?
Great photo collage!! Guilty pleasures hmmm... Visiting the fridge in the middle of the night, thank God not very often. I sometimes also feel guilty about working too much and not spending more time with the family.

Texting friends all the time or, even worse, talking on the phone. It's such a pleasure, though, that neither Twitter nor Facebook can replace. The guilt often comes together with the telephone bill.

I often indulge in so many pleasures! Guilty or not, I do enjoy the experience such as binging on muffins or chocolate between meals or enjoying a long walk when it's minus 10!

Sleeping too much! Well, you can't imagine the pleasure I feel the day before as I look forward to sleeping . But, when I finally wake up well after midday, I feel guilty because I wasted so much time sleeping instead of doing something more energetic or creative. By the way, I also believe that Panayiotis will be the next Greek Idol!!!

Why feel guilty if we really enjoy what we indulge in?

Watching trash TV, watering my outdoor plants when it's raining (I should be thinking of the world's water shortage),lying in the sun all day when on holiday, getting a 40-euro gift card for the best restaurant in town, watching the same dvd movie twice in a row, eating hot dogs when I'm supposed to be on diet, smoking a cigarette when all my friends and family know I've given it up.

eating an extra large 4 season pizza with extra cheese all by myself

Even if we enjoy doing something we shouldn't really be doing, I think the pleasure of doing it is more important than the guilty feelings. Life is so short and has so many pleasures to offer that even the guilty ones are worthwhile.

I don't have many guilty pleasures other than indulging in food and wine on special occasions or watching TV instead of reading my favourite book at weekends. However, I experienced my guiltiest pleasure in India, a few years ago. I was enjoying some of India's greatest dishes while, just outside the restaurant, in the streets, young children were begging for a piece of nan (indian bread).

I won't preach, Anastasia, but you must make an effort to quit smoking for your own good health. Then let me tell you that I love your photo collage! Finally, I wouldn't dare confess my guilty pleasures in public!

When I was younger I had lots and lots of guilty pleasures. But now I don't engage in any kind of excessive indulgence. Am I getting too old?

Comme Charles Fourier l'a dit si bien: "Ce ne sont pas les plaisirs qui sont malfaisants, mais seulement la rareté des plaisirs, d'où naît l'excès".

I don't know if I have guilty pleasures because I never feel guilty about anything that I do unless it's really sinful...if I indulge in food, I don't feel guilty. I eat because there's nothing sinful about eating ....but on a second thought, I always feel guilty of indulging myself in things that I really don't need but buy such as make-up and clothes never considering giving something to those who are in need---who need the money more than I do. So most oftentimes, I end up not buying what I want because I feel guilty of being selfish when people I know need the money more than I do.
Oh is there a Greek Idol? Never knew that....now I know.

I used to talk on the phone a lot. What a disaster! But now I'd rather talk to my friends and family on Facebook. I only call my mother once a week and friends in Larnaca.

Living in the eastern Med and being accustomed to hot weather, I thought I'd never enjoy a walk when it's got -10! But I did in Austria and Slovakia last Christmas! I loved the walk despite a guilty feeling - what if I caught a bad cold?

Now that's a very good question, Mark. But I guess we feel guilty because we know that we shouldn't give in to certain pleasures - for example smoking, eating or drinking too much.

Hey, that's ok to watch trash TV occasionally.... but water your outdoor plants when it's raining? Where's the pleasure??? Mind you, if I had done that in Cyprus last year, I might have ended in prison. We had serious water cuts then.

Well that's a record, Lisa! :-)

You are right, Haruko. But we are imperfect human beings and , more often than not, we feel guilty when doing something we shouldn't be doing despite the enjoyment. Yet, I agree. Life is too beautiful and too short to fill it with guilt once we really enjoy our choices.

I understand your feelings, yet you weren't responsible for that. So, no need to feel guilty about it.
Posted by: Anastasia | May 26, 2011 at 08:52 PM
Bing, I understand how you feel but I never feel guilty of enjoying something I can really afford just because there are people in need. I work very hard and truly enjoy going shopping without any guilt at all. I'd rather help people in need when I can.
