Does red wine protect against heart disease? Maybe. Many studies investigated the benefits of red wine suggested that moderate amount of red wine (one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men) lowers the risk of heart attack for people in middle age by ~ 30 to 50 percent. It is also suggested that alcohol such as red wine may prevent additional heart attacks if you have already suffered from one. Other studies also indicated that red wine can raise HDL cholesterol (the Good cholesterol) and prevent LDL cholesterol (the Bad cholesterol) from forming. Red wine may help prevent blood clots and reduce the blood vessel damage caused by fat deposits. Indeed, studies showed that people from the Mediterranean region who regularly drank red wine have lower risks of heart disease
I am a great lover of the Mediterranean Diet which is not really a diet but a healthy eating pattern and beyond that it's a lifelong, living style which basically consists in consuming lots of olive oil, fresh vegetables and fruit, legumes, chicken or poultry instead of red meat and 1-2 glasses of red wine at dinner. I love French reds very much - such as Chateauneuf du Pape or Saint Emilion - but I also enjoy great Greek reds by Ktima Hadjimichalis and Chateau Lazarides. Our very own Othello is also one of my favourite red wines. I have recently tried Californian reds such as Robert Mondavi Woodbridge and loved it. Consuming red wine in moderation can help prevent health problems.
Do you like wine? Do you include it - red wine in particular - in your daily diet? If you do, what's your favourite wine?
I love red wine- especially the greek wines. My favourite is the Cretan Diamantopetra - a syrah - made at Diamantakis Winery. It's an excellent red!

I don't really like red wine. It usually gives me a headache, but I never say no to a glass of iced retsina and soutzoukakia!!!

I don't like alcohol but occasionally on a night out, I enjoy a glass of red wine, especially in winter.

I wouldn't be a real Lemeshiani if I didn't like wine! :-) I believe that some of our wines are much better than many French or Italian wines. I love Ayia Mavri from Koilani Village - a smooth, aromatic dry red.

Mille Bisous!!!!

My grandfather always said:"Drink wine to live longer." In his days, there was only red, homemade wine. He used to drink 3 glasses every day - one at each meal. He died at the age of 106. I follow the family tradition and often enjoy some good red wine over dinner. I think we share the same taste, Anastasia. Othello is one of my favourites. Another one is Ayios Onoufrios made by a small winery in Cyprus. But it's an excellent, robust red. My second favourite is Kapnias from Ktima Hadjimichalis.

Give me some Pink Floyd, a good book, some dutch cheese and a glass of Chateau Tour Saint Martin 2001 and you have won my heart!

Since you like Californian wines, I recommend Altamura 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. It's an excellent red and I'm sure you'll love it.

I'm aware of the benefits of red wine. Though I'm not a wine drinker, I drink red wine because of its health benefits. And I'm also aware that the Mediterranean diet is the healthiest diet and that is why I love it.
