Despite our sunny and relatively warm halcyon days throughout January, I came down with a cold suffering from a sore throat and a runny nose. I decided not to run to my doctor and tried instead some home remedies and over-the-counter meds which proved to be very effective.
My chemist recommended Drill throat pastilles. Sucking on four a day cured my sore throat within 48 hours! I must admit their name evoked images of a drill digging in my throat, not to mention horror movies! They are miraculous, though! In addition to sucking Drill throat lozenges, warm saltwater gargle helped reduce swelling in the throat.
Staying hydrated is very important when your throat is irritated or inflamed. A warm cup of cinnamon and clove tea with a dash of honey is said to strengthen immunity and ward off infections. For an extra boost, I added a few drops of lemon juice. I've still got a runny nose but all I can do is use some more kleenex!
