Literally speaking, I've been diagnosed with a pain in the neck that doctors in their queer and hideous jargon call cervical traction or in plain English neck strain. The funny thing is I did not feel any pain in the neck but I did have a strange headache which worried me. My doctor said I should have my eyes checked first but the ophthalmologist said the headache was not due to eye problems. Next I was sent to a radiologist to have my neck x-rayed. I was diagnosed with degenerative discs most likely due to neck strain - such as spending too much time on the computer. It's really not easy to avoid working on the computer: lesson planning, class tests, absentees lists, calendar, payments, homework or classwork, the interactive board and...occasionally blogging and Facebook for pleasure.
The radiologist recommended seeing an orthopedist who prescribed some medication and physiotherapy for about a month. I had my first session of physio today and feel much better. The good thing is that I've got rid of the headache since Friday when I started taking 2 pills daily. Right now, I must take these physio sessions every day from Monday to Friday for about 2 hours each time during the first couple of weeks. I sit there for about 2 hours facing a white wall while treatment includes machines, gels, massage and....some magazines. I was wondering if I could replace the magazines with my laptop next session.... I could take advantage of these physio sessions and do some work. But I need to ask for permission first!
I also need to wear this ridiculous collar 2 hours daily. I'm doing my best!
Despite the pain in the neck, Alkis and I spent our long Greek festive weekend in Paphos and had a wonderful time there. I'll tell you all about it soon on my Travel Blog
